Overview

This course provides basic information on microbiology and how bacteria, viruses and parasites are spread. More in-depth information is provided on a range of infections including MRSA and gastroenteritis. The main aim of the course is to raise awareness of the role staff have in the prevention and control of infection in the workplace.

Course Contents

  • Understand and describe a range of factors that can increase the risk of infection
  • Recognize and describe the signs of infection
  • Appreciate the differences between cleaning, disinfection and sterilization
  • Understand the importance of basic precautions including hand washing and cleaning
  • Describe the measures necessary to manage people with MRSA and other infections
