Overview

This full-day, hands-on training course provides healthcare and social care staff with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to deliver safe, confident, and competent care. Covering Basic Life Support (BLS), Safer People Handling, and PEG/Enteral Feeding, the course blends theory, demonstration, and supervised practice to ensure participants meet current best-practice standards and regulatory requirements.

Designed for support workers, carers, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals, this session supports compliance with CQC, Skills for Health, and local organisational training frameworks.

Course Contents

Basic Life Support

  • Understand the principles of first aid
  • Appreciate the duties of a nominated person
  • Be able to assess casualties
  • Offer emergency aid (CPR, Bleeding, Burns and Choking)

Safer People Handling

  • Be aware of current legislation (including Human Rights Act) relating to manual handling and lifting equipment
  • Understand the nature and causes of manual handling related injuries
  • Appreciate the measures which can help to prevent injury
  • Understand the process of risk assessment and principles of safe manual handling
  • Develop practical skills in safe manual handling of people in the following situations: Sitting, Standing and Walking, Bed Mobility, Lateral Transfers, Hoisting and Slinging

PEG

  • Identify the difference between a bolus and continuous feeding
  • Describe how to give a feeding,
  • Summarize how to properly care for a PEG Feeding tube and the PEG site
