Overview

This training offers candidates a a snapshot overview of the special issues related to the moving and handling of people, for those who need a basic refresher.

An initial consideration of general manual handling is broadened out to include practical work upon a range of moving and handling situations faced by staff in contact with service users.

Course Contents

  • Be aware of current legislation (including Human Rights Act) relating to manual handling and lifting equipment
  • Understand the nature and causes of manual handling related injuries
  • Appreciate the measures which can help to prevent injury
  • Understand the process of risk assessment and principles of safe manual handling
  • Develop practical skills in safe manual handling of people in the following situations: Sitting, Standing and Walking, Bed Mobility, Lateral Transfers, Hoisting and Slinging
