Overview

This course equips learners with the knowledge of epilepsy, including the understanding of what it is, and how to care for people with it, as well as how to properly use the correct rescue medication

Course Contents

  • What is epilepsy?
  • The effects epilepsy has on the body
  • Awareness of different types of seizures
  • How to support a person during a epileptic seizure
  • Awareness of epileptic medication
  • Understanding Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy
  • Other treatments available e.g. surgery, ketogenic diet
  • How to recognise an epileptic emergency and how to deal with it appropriately including when to call the emergency services
  • Understanding and demonstrating the correct use of emergency medication (buccal midazolam, epistatus) as per JEC guidelines (Joint Epilepsy Council)
