Overview

This course includes safe handling of medicines for health and social care assistants including awareness of safe handling of medication, administering medication to individuals and monitoring the effects .

Course Contents

• Administer and monitor medication to individuals as per instructions from their employers and in accordance with their policy, their roles and responsibilities
• Knowledge of the legal framework, the legal implications and the need for the correct training
• Administer safely and accurately according to policy and procedures
• Ensure good knowledge on routes, different medications, and an awareness and ability to recognise adverse reactions to medication
• Ensure that learners are able to make accurate records and the importance of this
• Ensure that learners are aware of the need to report drug errors
• Competency based assessment
