Course Contents

  • Define pediatric sepsis, severe sepsis, and septic shock according to current clinical guidelines.
  • Describe the pathophysiology of sepsis in children and how it differs from adults.
  • Identify early clinical signs and symptoms of sepsis in pediatric patients.
  • Recognize high-risk populations for sepsis, including neonates and immunocompromised children.
  • Apply evidence-based diagnostic criteria and scoring tools (e.g., PELOD-2, pSOFA).
  • Initiate timely and appropriate treatment, including fluid resuscitation, antibiotics, and vasoactive support.
  • Understand the role of laboratory tests and imaging in diagnosis and monitoring.
  • Implement care bundles (e.g., 1-hour sepsis bundle) and standardized protocols in acute settings.
  • Manage complications of sepsis, including multi-organ dysfunction and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
