The virtual Food Safety course has been designed to educate those who do not work directly with preparing or handling food, but work in an environment where food is handled elsewhere or who only work with low-risk foods. The course familiarises the learner with basic food hygiene practices, so they are able to work safely.

A competency assessment will be required which will be given to employers for their records.

Progression onto the Level 2 Food Safety in Catering can be delivered at a later date either at the training centre or within the workplace following Government advice on Social Distancing.

Course Contents

  • Understand the terminology of food safety
  • Understand the laws that apply to food safety and describe generally the requirements of regulations
  • Appreciate the concept of food hazards and how the risk of food contamination can be contained
  • Appreciate the role of refrigeration, safe food storage, cleaning and disinfection
  • Recognise the relationship between food hygiene and the structure and equipment of food premises
