We here at JD Training have turned purple today to support Epilepsy Action and raise awareness of a condition that affects over 500,000 people in the UK alone – with 87 more diagnosed every single day.

But what is Epilepsy? It is not just one condition, but a group of ‘epilepsies’ with one thing in common: a tendency to have seizures that start in the brain. Epilepsy is usually only diagnosed after a person has had more than one seizure. Anyone can develop epilepsy, at any time of their life. It happens in people of all ages, races and social classes. Epilepsy is most commonly diagnosed in children and in people over 65.

Vital funds are needed in order to support those with Epilepsy and we urge you donate to Epilepsy Action, Epilepsy Society, Epilepsy Research UK or any of the other incredible charities that offer fantastic support to those in need.

We also offer a course that is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and confidence to best offer cre when supporting those with epilepsy as per the Joint Epilepsy Council guidelines. Those who attend will learn the following areas:

  • What is Epilepsy? And the affects Epilepsy has on the body
  • Awareness of different types of seizures and how to support someone during an epileptic seizure
  • Awareness of epileptic medication
  • Understanding Vagus Nerve Stimulation Therapy
  • Other treatments available e.g. Surgery, Ketogonic Diet
  • How to recognize an epileptic emergency and how to deal with it appropriately including when to call the emergency services
  • Understanding and demonstrating the correct use of emergency medication (Buccal Midazolam, Epistatus, Bucculam)
