Overview

This course includes safe handling of medicines for health and social care assistants including awareness of safe handling of medication, administering medication to individuals and monitoring the effects as well as progression to Level 3 medication unit.

This is a QCF Level Unit from the Health and Social Diploma and the criteria and requirements are set by the awarding body and training is designed around meeting the requirements and standards.

Due to this certification being part of the Awarding Body, TQUK, certificates are unable to be downloaded from our website. Please get in touch if you have not received your certificate 4 weeks since your final assessment has been completed.

Course Contents

  • Administer and monitor medication to individuals as per instructions from their employers and in accordance with their policy, their roles and responsibilities
  • Knowledge of the legal framework, the legal implications and the need for the correct training
  • Administer safely and accurately according to policy and procedures
  • Ensure good knowledge on routes, different medications, and an awareness and ability to recognise adverse reactions to medication
  • Ensure that learners are able to make accurate records and the importance of this
  • Ensure that learners are aware of the need to report drug errors
  • Ensure that the learners have a current CPR Certificate
  • Competency based assessment
